NOTE: This will also be dependent on whether it's a No Burn Day as per Maricopa County. To find out if a No Burn Day has been declared, you can download the Clean Air Make More Mobile App, check the Burn Restrictions Advisory page, or call 602-506-6400.
As of 25 Dec, a No Burn advisory has not been issued. But the weather forceast is calling for 90% chance of rain on Wednesday, 50% rain on Thursday, and 20% chance of rain on Friday. So the push to retire flags will be Monday the 26th and Tuesday the 27th. As of 27 Dec, POst 62 has disposed of all of the unserviceable flags. We will check again late Thursday to see if any more were dropped off before deciding on a Friday burn.
As a unit member of the Northwest Valley Veterans Assoc., (NWVVA) one of our shared duties is that of Flag Retirement. When a U.S. flag becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled, various agencies bring these flags to Sunland Memorial Park & Mortuary, 15826 N Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351for proper disposal.
The number of daily (Monday thru Friday) volunteers we need depends on the number of flags to retire. We like to start around 8 am (or earlier depending on weather) and it could take upwards of 4 hours daily. You should bring a sturdy set of gloves, and something to cover your mouth from the smoke as we use burn barrels, and something to eat or drink. Please contact Post 62 Commander Tom McClain, Color Guard Captian Barney Becklund, or the post adjutant at legadjutant@azpost62.com or at 602-769-3684.
The next scheduled date for Post #62 is the week of
